Germaine Saves the World

Adapted from "The Sweet Porridge" by Brothers Grimm

Once upon a time, there was a poor girl named Germaine who lived with her mother. When they had nothing left to eat, Germaine went into the Black Forest and met an old woman who gave her a small pot.

“Say, ‘Little pot, cook,’ and it will make sweet porridge. But when you’re done, say, ‘Little pot, stop,’” the woman instructed.

Now they could eat anytime! But one day, while Germaine was in town, her mother tried the pot… and forgot how to stop it! Porridge filled the house, the street, the village!

When Germaine returned, she said, “Little pot, stop!” and it did. But people had to eat their way back into their homes!
