John Steinbeck meets Scheherazade in Iran

"It's such a pity that he has to die so young," said one of the nightingales. 🐦

Bijan, a poor little boy, watched from the corner of his eye—too weak to move.

"But sister," said another bird, "is there no hope for him?"

"Only I know this is a magic tree,” replied the first nightingale, “Only I—and Hafiz." 📚

Bijan struggled, touched the Divan of Hafiz, and made a final wish. ✨

The poem he read said:
"The beautiful rose returns, after it was dead. Before its feet in respect, bows the violet’s head."

He felt the world spin—his sandals became bark, his clothes turned to leaves. 🌳

He saw fish above in the Caspian Sea and below in the Persian Gulf. 🐟

Bijan had changed. He had become... a Persian cat. 🐱
